I have found the best workout! My mother-in-law gave me a "BUNS OF STEEL" workout video that is amazing! It is HILARIOUS because it is from 1991 and the girl is wearing a giant scrunchy, leg warmers, high-tops, and a sick looking bikini! BUT it is the best butt, thighs and stomach workout I have ever done! I did it tonight with my cousin and we were in SO much pain! However I really do believe now that anyone can have their very own buns of steel after doing this video! It is actually a tiny bit depressing b/c while we were dying the girl on the video is just smiling and looking so happy! I apparently have a long way to go. Anyway, everyone should call their mom or aunt or anyone who was into fitness in the early 90's and get a BUNS OF STEEL video! It is actually BUNS OF STEEL 3 to be exact! Ok, that's all for today I just thought I would pass on that little bit of information. Sorry to all the guys that came to the blog today hoping for some enlightening sports talk from the husband! :)

NCAA December Madness!!

So my Uncle Jim and I have this thing where we send emails back and forth throughout the college football season. He's an Arkansas Razorback fan (huh?!?!) and of course I back the Texas Longhorns. We debate which teams are the best in the country, who should be ranked where, why the BCS is so messed up, and we give each other a hard time about the others' respective teams. Jim gets on me for liking the soft, overrated, underachieving Horns (His words, not mine.) while I give him heck for liking a very average team that rides the momentum of a very deep conference. While these email barbs are more than just a little biased, they have, unfortunately, turned out to be at least a bit true this season. Anyway, the point of this post is this: After taunting me about the Horns falling to the ags and the 'backs beating Number 1 LSU this past Saturday, he asked me how, if I could come up with a playoff system, which everyone knows D-1 football needs, and what it would look like. I took him up on that offer, and here is my very unscientific, unresearched bracket:

In my imaginary bracket, the top four bcs teams get a first-round bye, so if the season ended today (with no conference championships) West Virginia, Missouri, Ohio St, and Georgia get the first round off, with the No 1's-Mizzou & WVa-playing the 6/3 winner, and the No 2's-OSU & UGA- playing the 5/4 winners in their bracket. Also, I'm doing this without the bcs polls in front of me, so the rankings may not be exactly appropriate, but neither is the current way of figuring a champion, so whatever.

In the Mizzou/UGA bracket, we have the 6 seed Boston College Eagles taking on the 3 seed USC Trojans, and the 5 seed Hawaii Warriors facing the 4 seed Kansas Jayhawks.

In the WVa/OSU braket, the 6 seed 0u sooners face the 3 seed the University of Florida, while the 5 seed VaTech Hokies get a chance to redeem themselves against the 4 seed, LSU Tigers.*
*In real life, lsu and vatech wouldn't play each other in the first round, since they faced off early int he regular season, but they seem to be more on the same level now, so it's the best i can do for now.

In my mind's eye, i see USC advancing to play Mizzou, and Hawaii going on to play UGA. In the other bracket, we've got UF advancing to play West Va, and LSU playing OSU.

In the Nat'l Quarters, USC beats Mizzou, UGA beats Hawaii on one side, while West Va beats Florida, and LSU gets past Ohio State in the other bracket.

The Semi's I've got UGA and West Va succeeding to play each other in the National Championship, a rematch of Steve Slaton and Pat White's coming out party of the 2005 Sugar Bowl.

And the winner is.......................I really don't know. Probably Georgia, seems like they're one of the hottest teams in the nation right now, although i think it'd be a great game. It's funny how the bracket comes out when you go into it without any idea where it's heading. Don't know if this version would actually work, but it's a start. Also, I know that I had two teams that had first-round byes (Mizzou and OSU) losing their first game after the bye, but in a season like this, would it really surprise anyone?

The NBA, it's Faaaaaaantastic!!

Well hello, kaylaandlance.blogspot readers, it's your boy Lance making his first foray into the wild world of online blogging! (Can't you just feel the excitement?)
So anyway, this past Saturday I went to Toyota Center here in Houston to watch the hometown Rockets play the visiting Denver Nuggets. I was accompanied by the Father-in-Law, the honorable Douglas Freede; the slightly less honorable, but nonetheless entertaining Cody Girod, and his clone of a little brother, Cade. With the game being in Houston and whatnot, of course I was rooting for the Rockets, but the real highlight of the night was getting to see my boy, Allen Iverson-my favorite NBA player since i was in 7th grade. Doug has given me a hard time about liking AI for as long as I can remember, claiming that he was a thug based on some of his off-court incidences. Frankly, I can't argue with him about some of the things Iverson's been involved in; I mean, it's hard to defend someone who has been arrested for threatening his wife and brandishing a firearm in the home, but hey, considering all he's been through growing up (single teenage mom, absent father, abject poverty...you know the story) I feel like he's come out the other side a pretty decent human. The thing I respect most about him is how hard he plays night in and night out, despite the fact that he's maaaaayyybe 6 feet, and a buck-70, soaking wet and holding a weimariener. Every game he gets completely abused by 7 foot giants after driving to the basket, yet he never complains and never lets up. Three years ago, when the USA was sucking it up in the Sydney Olympics, AI was the only one who acted like he actually cared about the teams performance, like he was embarrassed and even disappointed that the nation was being represented in that manner. It's old news by now, but afterwards, there was an article on espn.com about how he felt honored to wear the red, white, and blue, how he understood that it was a privilege to be selected to play for his country, and that even a bronze medal, as disappointing as it was, was better than not playing at all. All that to say, there's way more to the guy than tattoos, and cornrows. He's very passionate about what he does and takes that responsibility very seriously.
So anyways, we're loving life at the game whilst the Rockets are kicking A and taking names (seriously, it was a 20 point lead at the end of the first quarter) and the Nuggets are looking very much off their game. Carmelo Anthony (who i will forever hold a grudge against for beating my Horns in the 2003 Final Four; Not to mention his sissy slap-and-retreat move against the Knicks last December) was 0-fer the first 20 minutes of the game, including two 3-point airballs. Even though things were going horribly for Denver, you better believe Iverson was out their busting his butt on defense, making his man work for the ball on every possession, and throwing himself into the lane countless times for little drop shots and runners numerous times on offense. Needless to say, by the end of the third, Mr Doug was more than impressed, and after the game AI's biggest critic was a new fan, a believer in Mr Allen Iverson.
Some other highlights and random thoughts:

• In pre-game warm ups, some rowdy Rockets fans did a roll-call, similar to New York Yankee bleacher bums who chant the name of every starter until they turn and acknowledge the fans. Anyway, most of the Rockets played it cool, sort of ignoring the fans and half-nodding when they felt like it. But when it came time for Luis Scola, the rookie from Argentina, he looked excitedly around the arena until he found the origin of the "Scola! Scola!" chants, and when he found them, he smiled, waived, giggled, and quite possibly wet his pants. Seriously, it was like a kid in a candy store, just a priceless ten seconds.
• Steve Francis, the former up-and-coming star the Rockets traded to Orlando for Tracy McGrady a few years ago-who has since become a bench warming journeyman- surprisingly got the biggest ovation when he was in the game. It was really bizarre, I mean, how many guys play for a team for like five years, don't take them past the first round of the playoffs, get traded, become very much an afterthought around the League, come back to his original team, and get a standing O when he enters the game and knocks down two free throws?!?! Whaaaaat? The guy's getting MJ treatment for absolutely no reason. Fascinating.
• The Booker T introduction during a timeout. I think Cody actually yelped for joy when they showed him on the jumbotron, good times.
• And finally, the three-year old who brought the house down hamming it up for the 'Flex-cam' If you weren't there you wouldn't know, so I won't try to explain. Just know that it was hilarious. Got it? Good.

All good things must come to an end! :(

I don't have a lot of time to write today but I thought I would post some pics of my fam from the break! We came back to Houston and have spent the last two days in Sugar Land with my family, Betho's boyfriend Cody, and his adorable little brother Cade. I actually miss getting up on Sunday morning and fighting with Betho about who gets to wear what and whose earrings belong to who! Lance is used to it but I think Cody was about to kill me!
The reason I don't have a lot of time to write today is because Lance and I accidentally left a candle burning in our apartment when we left for the break!! We were gone for a WEEK and I am SOOO thankful that we didn't burn down our entire apartment complex. It isn't like us to do something like that so we were kinda freaked out! Anyway now a HUGE portion of our wall is completely black from the candle burning for so long and in my attempt to fix it I ended up scrubbing all the paint of that part of the wall. On a positive note, now we have a good excuse to paint the walls something better than the ugly white they are now! :) So that is what I am going to be doing for the rest for the day!
I hope everyone has a good week and doesn't have to hard of a transition getting back into the routine of school and work. I am actually kind of excited to see all 14 of my little 4 & 5 year olds faces in the morning. Thats the great thing about my job. No matter how tired or stressed out you are you can't stay unhappy with 14 little kids all wanting to give you a hug and a kiss!
PS. As of yesterday I learned that I am in fact NOT smarter than a fifth grader! My family played the game and I lost everytime. I guess its a good thing that I teach 4 year olds! :)

My first Thanksgiving as an Agan

My new Family LOVES football.....
Ok as many of you know I got married to the most amazing man in the world on June 9th and am extremely blessed to have such an wonderful husband. However, throughout the past couple of months I have learned something very tragic about my husband and his entire family! They LOVE football and if you know me at all you know that there are few things in the world more painful to me than sitting and watching an ENTIRE football game.
I have come to accept the fact that during football season Saturdays are going to consist of watching Texas, yelling at the TV, and singing along to the fight song. However, I have felt so fortunate my entire life that on Thanksgiving day while the rest of the country is watching football I am doing something entirely different. My Thanksgivings have always consisted of hours of girl talk with my cousins, aunts, sister and mom! We have a great time with all the men in the Family but after lunch it is men to the TV and girls to the other room (my Dad occasionally pops in for some girl talk). We watch movies, play games, EAT, and catch up on each others lives.
I had my first Thanksgiving with Lance's family and ignoring the football game was not an option. We had an amazing lunch and timed it just perfectly so that we could all be full and happy right in time for the kick off! I am not gonna lie...at first I was a little worried about this change in family dynamic, however ended up having a GREAT time! I honestly couldn't tell you who won the game and now that I think about it I don't even know who the Cowboys were playing. But I feel so blessed to have been able to sit in a room with both sets of Lance's grandparents, his parents, and his aunts and uncles. It is so wierd that when you get married you gain an entirely new family and as much as I missed my family yesterday I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life. If Lance's family can accept his Football hating wife and be nice enough to try to entertain me during the game I can definitely handle watching a game or two!

I am now a blogger.....I feel so grown up!

So I have never had a blog but LOVE reading about all of my friends exciting lives and precious little babies! I don't have a little baby to blog about or even a puppy so I am gonna hope Lance & I have an interesting enough life to fill up some pages! ;)
